El Chaltén is a village in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. The city was first founded in the late 1970s or early 1980s and attracts a growing number of tourists each year. The town is sometimes called the trekking capital of the world, and the Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre trails are common favorites, whilst the more advanced hikers will often try the Viedma Glacier trek. Even if trekking isn't your thing, you'll have many things to do and salmon fishing, glacier boat tours, and day trips into Chile are all possible. El Chalten is a unique destination because it's lively, charming and great for adventure junkies
